Patio Benches
The last thing I built was a pair of benches to complete the seating arangement. These wrap around the ends of the
table, allowing three people to sit on each. The person in the middle does not get a back rest, but that person still
has an escape route for relief after a few beers. It took me a while to get the design right on these, but after
many evenings of sketching, I finally came up with something that worked. Each bench is constructed of three pieces;
a left and right section which are mirror images of each other, and a center section. The left and right sides are
similiar to the chairs, but are more complex due to the many compound angles required to get around the
45 degree corners.

The frames for the center sections were built first.

Assembling the frames for the sides.

The angled rib is nestled in an angled daido cut in the leg.

I built this simple tennoning jig to cut the next parts to reinforce the joint of the angled ribs to the legs.

The completed reinforcing part.

The reinforcement part installed.

The frames are bolted together.

Insall the slats.

Aroound the legs, the ends of the slats were shaped to fit.

Completed in the workshop.

The two center slats are slightly wider than the others to make up the space.

Complete the installation in the back yard.
